How to use these sources
These sources inform Gentled's movement, adaptation, and recovery guidance. They do not validate Gentled's readiness categories, exact session timings, or individual exercises as treatment. Those are app design choices, not a clinical assessment or a guarantee of safety.
Ask a qualified healthcare professional about movement that is appropriate for you, particularly if you have ME/CFS, post-exertional malaise, dizziness, or unstable joints. Follow your individual care plan. Stop if symptoms worsen; seek medical help for new or concerning symptoms.
Energy limits and ME/CFS
NICE NG206, sections 1.11.2–1.11.14, describes flexible energy management and advises against exercise as a cure, generalised exercise programmes, and fixed increases for ME/CFS. This informs Gentled's rest options and absence of automatic progression. Gentled does not replace specialist support or an individual activity plan.
Delayed recovery and PEM
The CDC explains that post-exertional malaise can worsen symptoms 12–48 hours after activity, and that activity and symptom diaries can help identify personal limits. This informs Gentled's optional later recovery checks. A check-in cannot diagnose PEM or establish that an activity was safe.
Joint control and hypermobility
The Ehlers-Danlos Society describes individual adaptation, low joint loads, movement control, and avoiding overstretching. This informs Gentled's supported positions and smaller-range alternatives. Appropriate exercises and limits should be agreed with a qualified professional.
Dizziness and upright activity
The paper below discusses adapting exercise rehabilitation for POTS and related autonomic disorders to the individual. It provides background for Gentled's adjustable positions and demand. Gentled does not deliver the paper's rehabilitation protocol or use heart rate to decide whether movement is safe.
Chronic pain and individual needs
NICE NG193, section 1.2.1, says supervised exercise for chronic primary pain should account for individual needs, preferences, and abilities. This informs Gentled's choices and adaptations. Gentled is self-guided and is not the supervised programme recommended by NICE; this guidance must not override ME/CFS or other condition-specific advice.
About Gentled's guidance
The sources support general principles, not every movement or suggested duration. Gentled's readiness guidance uses your entries and optional context; its categories are not clinically validated. Health graphs and movement patterns describe recorded information and cannot establish causes, predict a crash, or provide medical clearance.
