Backup & restore

Which option fits? · Fictional example
For illustration only. Nothing here changes your app records.
Explore what each option does. These choices do not change settings or create files.
- Data option
Sync
Keep Metered records available on your own devices through your personal iCloud account. This does not turn on carer sharing or Connected Apps.
- Data option
Backup
Keep a restorable copy of your Metered records and settings. A backup can contain private information. Preparing a file does not prove it has been saved somewhere safe.
- Data option
Report
Preview a formatted PDF for an appointment. Reports require Metered+. Review its contents before choosing whether to share it. Generating a report does not send it to anyone.
- Data option
CSV
Inspect records in a spreadsheet. CSV export requires Metered+. Check which fields and dates are included; a spreadsheet cannot replace a restorable backup.
Overview
Back up all your Metered data — plans, activities, check-ins, outcomes, events, templates, and settings — to a single file. Restore on a new device or after reinstalling. Find it in More › Data › Backup & Restore. Settings include notification choices, optional check-in movement context, Morning Signal preferences, pressure alert thresholds, and other tuning controls.
Automatic backups: when iCloud Sync is on, Metered turns on Automatic Backups for you. Metered writes a fresh backup to your iCloud Drive once a day, either in the background or on launch. The last 7 backups are kept and older ones pruned automatically.
If iCloud Drive gets stuck: if Metered says it cannot write to its iCloud Drive folder, open Settings › your Apple Account › iCloud › Drive. Make sure Sync this iPhone is on and Metered is allowed to use iCloud Drive. If everything is on but backups still fail, turn Sync this iPhone off and back on, then reopen Metered.
Restore safety: turn off iCloud Sync and restart Metered before restoring. Restore locally and check the result before deciding whether to turn sync back on. Metered keeps a recovery copy while restoring. If a restore is interrupted, it tries to recover your saved data before you continue. If recovery cannot finish, use Try recovery again or Choose a backup. Choosing a backup replaces the interrupted restore with that backup. Keep a separate backup in case recovery cannot finish.
Backups don’t include Apple Health samples (those stay in HealthKit) or your Metered+ purchase (that restores via the App Store). A check-in with movement context includes only its saved coarse comparison band.
Prepare a backup file
Create a backup using the normal controls, then choose where to keep it.
Prepare a backup file
A storage drive sits beside a folder and a key, representing a private copy of your records. Creating a backup file does not confirm where you saved it.
Prepare a backup file: steps
- Find manual backup Use the manual backup action below. You do not need to turn on automatic backups or change iCloud settings to prepare a file.
- Prepare the file Choose Back Up Now. The guide ends after Metered creates the file successfully; an error leaves it open for retry.
- Keep a copy safely In the share sheet, choose where to save your backup. You can cancel. Creating a file does not confirm a separate copy was saved, and this guide never restores or replaces records.
