Backup and restore

From the app’s English Help & Guide · Reference release 1.0.12

More › Data › Backup & Restore. A backup is a .toleratedbackup file — a ZIP archive containing every protocol, food status, challenge, symptom log, threshold, scan, and your core settings. You can manage the file in Files or transfer it to another device.

Automatic backups

When iCloud Sync is on, Tolerated turns on Automatic Backups for you. Tolerated writes a fresh archive to your iCloud Drive once a day — either when you open the app or as a background refresh. Tolerated keeps the last seven and prunes older ones so the folder stays tidy.

If iCloud Drive gets stuck

If Tolerated says it cannot write to its iCloud Drive folder, open Settings › your Apple Account › iCloud › Drive. Make sure Sync this iPhone is on and Tolerated is allowed to use iCloud Drive. If everything is on but backups still fail, turn Sync this iPhone off and back on, then reopen Tolerated.

Manual backups

Tap Back Up Now for an immediate archive, then share it via the system share sheet to iCloud Drive, a password manager’s file vault, or another device. The backup is in readable form — store it somewhere private.

Restore

Pick any `.toleratedbackup` via Restore from Backup. Before importing, Tolerated takes a rollback snapshot of your current data. If the restore fails midway, it reapplies the snapshot automatically so your previous state is preserved. A confirmation dialog shows the backup date, file size, and counts so you know what you’re replacing.

What’s included, what isn’t

The backup includes your protocols, food exclusions, food statuses, reintroduction history, symptom logs (with Apple Health context), thresholds, scan history with tolerance markers, and your main preferences. It does NOT include demo-mode state, StoreKit purchase persistence, or the seeded food library (that re-seeds itself on first launch).
