Describe your day
From the app’s English Help & Guide · Reference release 1.0.27
How it works
Type or dictate a free-form description of your day, and Tended extracts structured data from it automatically. It matches your words against your tracked items, understands different word forms (like “bloated” matching “Bloating”), and handles unpunctuated voice input. Tended shows you a summary of what it found, so you can review before filling the entry form. Everything runs on-device — no internet connection needed.
Voice entry
Tap the microphone button to describe your day by voice. Tended transcribes as you speak, with live text appearing in the editor. If you pause for 30 seconds, recording stops automatically to save battery — a countdown appears in the last 5 seconds. Tap the X button to clear and start fresh if you want to re-record. You can also use the microphone on your keyboard for shorter notes.
What gets extracted
Symptoms and severity, medications, triggers, food and drink, relief methods, body regions, activities, mood labels, energy, sleep, bowel, period days, PEM/crash, and reactions are all extracted from your text. Tended understands different word forms — “walked” matches “Walking” in your activities, “stressed” matches “Stress” in your triggers. With AI enhancements enabled (Tended+), your day rating and a reflection summary are also generated, and ambiguous items (like “dairy” which could be food or trigger) are classified based on context.
Example
“Rough day. Woke up with a bad headache and stiff neck, maybe a 7. Took 500mg paracetamol and had some toast. My left knee is really bad today, feels like grinding. Stress at work didn’t help. Had pasta for dinner. Managed to go for a walk.”
From this, Tended would extract headache and neck stiffness as symptoms, paracetamol as a medication, toast and pasta as food, stress as a trigger, drop pins on the neck and left knee, and recognise the walk as an activity. You can then review the summary and adjust before saving.
Review before saving
After parsing, Tended shows a summary of everything it found. Tap “Use these results” to fill the entry form, then make any final adjustments before saving.
Lite and full modes
Describe your day works for all users. In lite mode, Tended matches your text against your tracked symptoms, medications, triggers, food, activities, and more. Your day rating is estimated from keywords, and your typed text becomes the reflection.
With AI enhancements enabled (Tended+ on a device with Apple Intelligence), Tended also analyses the overall sentiment to set your day rating, generates a concise reflection, and classifies ambiguous items based on sentence context. Everything runs entirely on your device.
Availability on iOS 18 and later
On iOS 18–25, or when Apple Intelligence is unavailable, disabled, or still downloading, Tended uses lite mode and does not show the AI Enhancements setting. Describe your day and private on-device voice entry still work. On a compatible device with iOS 26 or later, Apple Intelligence, and Tended+, the AI Enhancements setting appears under More › Preferences.
