Using the journal
From the app’s English Help & Guide · Reference release 1.0.33
Use Journal to create, find and edit your entries. Switch between list and day-by-day view to use the same records in the layout you prefer.
Preferences is grouped into Journal and insights, Display and language, Health and context, Privacy and sharing, and Guidance. Journal list appearance controls how days and entries look in the list. Journal overview style controls the reminders and shortcuts above your entries. Weather and its temperature unit are together in Health and context. Show tips again is in Guidance.
Open More > Preferences > Journal list appearance to choose Separate cards, Grouped cards, Day card, or Date column. Separate cards is the default layout. You can also keep the date visible while scrolling, repeat the date on each entry, and allow days to collapse. Days start expanded; tap the arrow beside a date to hide or show its records. Small icon badges show the counts of entries, appointments and major events; zero counts are hidden. In Separate cards, Grouped cards and Day card, empty days have no collapse arrow. If the date and actions need separate rows, the rating and add-entry actions stay on the right. Rating and add-entry controls remain available. Changing the list filter reopens days. The date column replaces the full date heading and runs from the day controls down alongside its records. On narrow layouts or with larger text, the full date heading appears above the content instead. These device-specific preferences affect only the Journal list, not the calendar view or your records. Restore default list appearance returns all these options to their original settings.
Journal overview style
Open More > Preferences > Journal overview style to choose stacked cards, compact cards, horizontal cards, a compact list, compact circle buttons, large circle buttons, pill buttons or a single button. Stacked cards is the default. The setting applies to both journal views. Every layout groups the overview on a subtly deeper background above your entries. The Appointments count includes all upcoming appointments within your chosen preparation window. Tap a compact item to open its existing controls. Overview sheets open with their contents expanded. The Help & guide shortcut opens the full guide directly. With Horizontal cards, swipe the cards to browse shortcuts; swipe the day content below them to change days in day-by-day view. Compact layouts keep Medications, Appointments and today’s entry together, with additional sections in More. Medications appears when medication tracking is enabled, including when there are no pending doses. Help & guide is last within More. Active tracking break and Flare Mode controls remain visible. At accessibility text sizes, compact layouts use full-width rows. The style chooser includes a preview and a short description for every choice. The Single button layout shows pending medication doses, the next appointment within your preparation window and an unfinished entry for today. When none apply, it shows No pending reminders. Tap anywhere on the bar to open the overview. This changes presentation only, not your records or tracking settings.
The Journal tab supports a chronological list and a calmer day-by-day view. Both show the same entries and let you create, find, and edit your records.
Journal controls
In list view, the filter button narrows entries by day rating and the calendar button changes journal view. In day-by-day view, the list button returns to the chronological list. The lightning button starts a Quick check-in. Tap + for a full entry, or touch and hold + for Describe your day, Record major event, Same as yesterday, and other entry choices.
When a displayed day has no journal entries, tap the circled + beside its Day Rating in list view, or Add entry below No entry for this day in day-by-day view. The entry opens with that date selected. Once the day has an entry, use the toolbar + to add another and change its date if needed. Rate day and Review Day Rating are outlined buttons; a saved rating remains a numbered circle.
Moving between days
In day-by-day view, tap a date above the journal or swipe left and right anywhere in the journal below the dates. A left swipe moves forward up to today; a right swipe moves back.
Editing an entry
Entry cards show an outlined Edit label in both journal views. Tap anywhere on an entry card to change the saved entry without creating a duplicate. Major events also show Edit. Search results open the same editor.
Searching your records
Open the Search tab to search journal entries and Major Events, including symptoms, medications, moods, and text you recorded. Tap a result to review or edit it.
Show tips again
Feature tips explain unfamiliar actions as you reach them. Tended shows at most one automatic tip per app visit, with at least four hours between tips. Dismissing or using a tip does not immediately start another. Automatic tips pause during an active guided task. In More > Preferences > Guidance, turn Feature tips off to stop these hints, or tap Show tips again to restore active tips, including Connections. Replay allows one tip immediately; later tips follow the normal pace. Help, info-button explanations and notices about the current entry remain available.
