Mood

From the app’s English Help & Guide · Reference release 1.0.27

Tended starts with 18 built-in moods across five organising groups: difficult-activated, difficult-depleted, positive-energised, positive-settled, and chronic illness. These are not fixed definitions. Moods can overlap, and you can add your own labels or hide ones that do not fit how you describe your day.

How it works

Mood pills appear below the day rating in your journal entry. Tap any that apply — you can select as many as you want. If you use voice or text entry, Tended automatically detects emotional states from your description and pre-fills them for you to confirm.

Managing your moods

Open More › Tracking, then use Manage in the Moods row to add custom moods, change their group, or hide labels you do not use. Built-in moods and custom moods already used in journal entries can be hidden, so your history still makes sense. Custom moods you created but have not logged yet can be deleted.

Apple Watch moods

The Watch mood picker mirrors the active moods you manage on iPhone. Hide a mood in the Moods screen to remove it from both iPhone and Watch pickers; custom moods appear on Watch after sync.

How mood differs from symptoms

Emotional states capture how you felt on a given day — they’re transient. Symptoms like Depression and Anxiety are clinical conditions tracked with severity over time. Tended keeps them separate so your correlations and experiment results are more precise.

What you’ll learn

The free Mood Patterns insight shows your one-month average and recent mood trend. With Tended+, mood states also appear in flare and better-day comparisons, factor links, day-of-week analysis, co-occurrence patterns, experiments, Doctor Mode, health reports, warning signs, Explain My Condition, and the Health Map.
