Sleep quality
From the app’s English Help & Guide · Reference release 1.0.33
Rate your sleep quality each day on a 1–5 scale. Enable it in More › Tracking.
How to log it
Rate how restorative the sleep felt, not just how many hours you were in bed. A short but refreshing sleep can be higher than a long, broken night. If you use Describe your day, Tended can pick up phrases like “slept badly” or “restful sleep” for you to confirm.
Manual and Apple Health sleep
Your self-rated sleep quality stays in your Tended journal. If Apple Health sleep is enabled, Tended can also show sleep duration from HealthKit alongside your rating. The two are kept separate because duration and quality often tell different stories.
How it’s used
Sleep quality appears on your timeline entries, in correlations, and in health reports. Tended can also note when poor sleep was recorded before harder days; that timing is not proof of cause or a prediction.
Sleep correlations
With Tended+, the Sleep insight card analyses which factors correlate with better or worse sleep. Triggers, foods, medications, and activities are all checked.
Widgets and reports
Sleep appears in the Sleep & Energy home screen widget, Insights, regular summaries, Doctor Mode, and health reports. Tended can also show when poor sleep was recorded before harder days, without treating that timing as proof of cause or a prediction.
Record your sleep
Keep a record of your sleep quality.
If a field you want is hidden, enable it in More > Tracking. Only turn on what you want to use.

Record your sleep: steps
- Check the date The guide opens a new journal entry. Check its date and time before adding details. You can also use this guide while editing an existing entry.
- Find Sleep Choose a Sleep quality rating in the entry. Use your own experience of the sleep you are recording.
- Add context if useful A reflection can explain waking often or feeling unrefreshed. The rating does not measure sleep duration or diagnose a sleep problem.
- Save your entry Return to the entry and tap Save. Wait for it to close. The guide completes only after the relevant new or changed detail is saved.
Record your sleep · Fictional example
For illustration only. Nothing here changes your app records.
These fictional details explain the guide; they are not suggested values for your records.
- Sleep note
Woke several times
A short explanation can distinguish similar ratings on different days.
Record your sleep: troubleshooting
If the guide has not finished, check that you changed the relevant field and saved the entry. Simply reopening an existing value does not count. If Save fails, keep the draft open and use Try Again.
