Where is my data?

Tended stores your journal and related records on your device. Optional iCloud sync, automatic backups, sharing with compatible apps, carer sharing, and reports or exports can create copies outside the app. Each has its own controls. Tended has no Cocoacorn account, analytics or developer data server.
iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync, Tended uses your private CloudKit database to sync app records between your devices. Cocoacorn does not receive these private records. Automatic backups use a separate iCloud Drive folder. Optional carer sharing uses a separate share with the participants you invite; it does not make your full journal public.
Sync and performance
When iCloud sync first runs — or after restoring a backup, setting up a new device, or re-enabling sync — the app may feel slower while it downloads and processes your data. This is completely normal and will settle once the initial sync completes.
The time it takes depends on how much data you have. A few months of entries syncs quickly. Several years of daily logging with photos may take longer. You can keep using the app during sync — data will appear gradually.
If you notice the app is sluggish, give it a few minutes with a good internet connection. Background App Refresh helps sync complete faster when the app is closed.
AI features
The AI-enhanced version of “Describe your day,” What this means on insight views, and AI-enhanced summaries all use Apple Intelligence, which runs entirely on your device. The lite version of Describe your day works without AI for all users. No data leaves your device for AI processing.
HealthKit
Tended reads Apple Health and does not write data back to it. Original samples remain in Apple Health. Values you save into a journal entry, including hydration auto-fill, become Tended records and can be included in enabled iCloud sync, backups, reports or exports. Reading a Health metric does not mean every sample is copied into your journal.
Weather
Tended obtains weather conditions from Apple WeatherKit when you log an entry. Saved weather context becomes part of that entry and follows your enabled sync, backup and export choices.
